Brechlin Leaving Islander
Long-time Mount Desert Islander editor, Earl Brechlin has announced that he will be leaving the paper at the end of the month of August and taking a position as communications director for Friends of Acadia.
Brechlin has been with the paper since its inception in 2001.The Islander under Brechlin's leadership has been consistently honored for general excellence by the Maine, New England and National Press Associations.
Prior to coming to the Islander Brechlin was the editor at the Bar Harbor Times.
In the article published online at the Ellsworth American's website, Alan Baker, publisher of the American and Islander said, "Earl's departure is sad news, but we respect his decision and wish him well. Over the past 16 years, Earl and his crew have earned the esteem of the MDI community and won state, regional and national honors for first-rate journalism. He's made us proud. Rest assured that Earl will be succeeded by a capable editor and the Islander will continue to be the excellent newspaper that it is."
