If you have any doubt that we live in an amazing community, let me invite you to look at these pictures and read about how Ellsworth Elementary and Middle School went pink today, May 18th, as Dekota Surette celebrated his 13th birthday and prepared to head down to Boston for brain surgery.

Dekota has epilepsy, the kind where seizures occur so frequently it impacts his quality of life. Next week, he will head to Boston Children's Hospital for surgery to try and control the seizures. He will be down there for at least 2 weeks. Mail and cards are encouraged and may be sent to Boston Children's Hospital 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts Attn: Dekota Surette (Patient)

Nearly the entire student body, staff, teachers and friends wore some form of pink today. It is Dekota's favorite color. The school sang happy birthday to him when he was in the Cafeteria.  Students and teachers lined the hallways cheering him on, encouraging him, giving him high fives and passing him cards. Family, and teachers accompanying him were constantly dabbing their eyes.

A GoFundME page has been established to help the family.
