The Sumner Boys Soccer Team avenged their lone loss of the season, beating Lee Academy 3-2 in Double Overtime at Del Luce Stadium in Ellsworth on Thursday, October 25th.

Sumner struck first, scoring on a direct kick by Orlando Herrera with 27:12 remaining in the 1st Half.

Sumner made it 2-0 when Damon Warren scored with an assist from Herrera with 12:11 left in the 1st Half.

Lee scored to make the score 2-1 with 4:30 remaining in the 1st Half when Mike Noyes scored on a cross from Ethan Allard.

Lee Academy tied the score when Sumner was whistled for a hand ball in the box. With 11:40 remaining in regulation Peter Loman scored on the penalty kick.

The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and remained deadlocked 2-2 at the end of the 1st Overtime.

As the 2nd Overtime drew to an end, it appeared that the game was going to be decided by penalty kicks. With less than 1 minute remaining Caelan Billings brought the ball down the right wing. With less than 10 seconds remaining, he crossed the ball and Damon Warren scored his 2nd goal of the game, and the game winner with 3 seconds left in Double Overtime.

Alex Rumill was in goal for Sumner and Matty Knowles was in goal for Lee Academy.

Sumner, now 14-1 will play the top seeded Fort Kent Warriors who are 11-2-1 in the semifinals. Lee Academy finishes the season with a record of 7-7-1.
