
Red Sox Shutout 2-0 Sunday Afternoon
The Boston Red Sox were shutout by the Tampa Bay Rays, losing 2-0 on Sunday, August 19th. The Red Sox managed only 2 hits in the loss.
Hector Velazquez, pitching in place of injured ace Chris Sale, went 4 innings, taking his first loss of the season. He's now 7-1. He allowed 1 run, on 3 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2. The Rays only had 4 hits in the game, but 2 of them were homers, one by Joey Wendle off of Velazquez and the other by CJ Cron off of Matt Barnes in the 9th inning.
The Red Sox's 2 hits came off of the bats of Andrew Benintendi and Xander Bogaerts, who had a double. Bogaerts now has a career high 36 doubles.
The Yankees are now 9.5 games behind the Red Sox, as they beat Toronto 10-2 Sunday. The Yankees are idle on Monday
