Red Sox Beat Royals 5-4 to Go 11 Games Over .500 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Sunday afternoon, July 14th to go 11 games over .500, the first time since June 26th, 2022 that they've been 11 games over .500. With their win on Sunday, they are a Major League-best 15-1 on Sundays!

Brayan Bello started for the Red Sox, picking up the win, and is now 10-5. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs, striking out 3 and walking 1.

Brennan Bernadino got out of a jam in the 7th inning, thanks in part to a tremendous throw from Ceddanne Rafaela gunning down a runner at 3rd.

Kenley Jansen pitched the 8th and 9th inning, for his 19th save of the season. Striking out 3, he recorded his 1197th strikeout,  moved him to 6th place on the all-time-strikeout list, ,by a relief pitcher, passing Billy Wagner.

Dominic Smith was 2-3, hitting his 5th homer of the season, driving in 3 runs.

Rafael Devers was 2-3, with a double, and a 2-run homer in the 1st inning. The homer was his 23rd homer of the year, and was hit so hard, the ball broke a chair in the bleachers.

Jarren Duran was 4-5 with a double.

Boston is now 2 games ahead of the Royals for the 3rd wild card spot and just a half game behind Minnesota. They are 3.5 games behind the Yankees for 2nd place in the AL East and 4.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East lead. The Red Sox are off until Friday, July 19th when they open a 3-game series in L.A. against the Dodgers.
