Red Sox Fall to Guardians 6-4 Thursday
The Boston Red Sox spotted the Cleveland Guardians 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and tried to rally, coming up just short, falling to them 6-4 on the road Thursday afternoon.
With 3/5 of the starting rotation on the Injured List, the Red Sox turned the game into a "bullpen" game, using 6 pitchers. Chase Anderson started and was tagged for 5 runs, on 3 hits, 2 of which were home runs, walking 3 in 1.2 innings.
Rafael Devers, playing designated hitter, was 3-5 in his 2nd game back from the bone bruise. Manager Alex Cora said Devers would continue to DH through Friday, before playing 3rd base on Saturday. That means that Masataka Yoshida who hasn't started since Saturday, April 20th will be on the bench another night Friday.
Rob Refsnyder was 2-5 with a double. Connor McGuire was 2-3.
Connor McGuire committed 2 errors at catcher, both throwing errors.
The Red Sox did receive a bit of good news in that Nick Pivetta who's been on the Injured list since April 6th could make a rehab start in early May and be back in time for the Red Sox-Braves series May 7-8.
