This Monday, May 27th is Memorial Day and there will be observances in Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor.

Bar Harbor

Downtown at the pier, the ceremony will begin at 10AM with music by the Conners Emerson Band. The National Anthem will be performed by Lorraine Bunker Smart and prayer will be offered by Reverend Rob Benson. The keynote speaker will be Greg Johnson of the Summit Project and then Secretary of State Matt Dunlap will speak. The Conner Emerson Band will play again and then the approximate 1 hour ceremony will conclude with the playing of Taps by Brian Booher and the laying of the wreath by the US Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor and closing remarks.

The Bar Harbor Garden Club will hold a brief ceremony at 11AM. at the Blue Star Marker on Route 3 at the head of Mount Desert Island.

Northeast Harbor

Northeast Harbor American Legion Post 103 is sponsoring a Memorial Day Parade which will begin at Mount Desert Elementary School at 10:30 AM heading down to the Marina. A . and proceed to the marina. A ceremony will follow the parade at the Joseph Musetti Veteran's Memorial Park at the Marina

Southwest Harbor

There will be a Parade at 9AM with a ceremony at the Eugene M. Norwood Square at the intersection of Main Street and the Seal Cove Road. The Parade will then travel to Veteran's Memorial Park.  Leading the Parade will be the Color Guard comprised of members of the US Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor as well as the Southwest Harbor Fire Department. Bans from Pemetic Elementary School and the Tremont Consolidated School will play.

Brief speeches and recitations of “In Flanders Fields” and Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address” are planned.
