The MDI Girl's Softball Team took the long road up to the County on Saturday, May 10th and came with a split, losing the first game 7-5, before coming back and winning game 2, 5-3.

In Game 1, MDI scored first, as Shelby O'Neil, reached on an error by the Presque Isle third baseman, and then stole second and third. Sierra Myrick reached on a walk, and stole second. Both O'Neil and Myrick scored when Molly Carroll stroked a double.

Presque Isle would score one run in the bottom of the first inning. Carly Bell would reach 2nd on a two base error by the MDI third baseman, and then scored when Shea Brown doubled. At the end of the 1st Inning, MDI led 2-1.

Presque Isle would add 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Megan Seward reached on a single, and Kelsey Gilson would get to 2nd on a two base throwing error by the MDI third baseman. That throwing error allowed Seward to score. Jillian Flynn, singled, scoring Gilson, and Flynn would subsequently score after Olivia Hudson singled with two out. After 2 innings, Presque Isle led 4-2.

MDI added 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd, to tie the score. O'Niel doubled, and reached third on a passed ball, and scored on Myrick's single. Avalon Kelrly would single, and eventurally score after a single by Ali Bierman.

But, Presque Isle would add 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take the lead for good. Macy Desmond singled, and reached 2nd when Jordi Legassie flied out to center. Megan Seward singled, and went to second on an error by the MDI shortstop, which sent Desmond to 3rd. Kelsey Gilson reached on an error by the MDI pitcher, which allowed Seward and Desmond to score, and Gilson would come around to score on Carly Bell's double.

MDI would try to make a comeback in the top of the 7th inning, but they were only able to push across one run. Shelby O'Neil doubled for her 2nd hit of the game, and would score on Sierra Myrick's single, her second hit of the game, but that was it for the Trojans in game one, as they ended up losing 7-5.

Haley Littlefield took the loss for MDI, pitching 6 innings, allowing 9 hits, 7 runs, of which only 3 were earned. She walked 1, and didn't strike anyone out.

Carly Bell pitched 7 innings for Preque Isle in the win, allowing 11 hits, 5 runs, 4 of whiche were earned. She walked 2 and struck out 1 Trojan.

In Game 2 MDI pushed across 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Sierra Myrick singled in the top of the 1st inning, and scored on Avalon Kerley's single. Kerley scored on Hannah Shaw's double.

Presque Isle would get one of the runs back in the bottom of the second inning. Chelsy Argreaves singled, and reached 2nd on a sacrifice by Macy Desmond. Argreaves scored on a single by Jordan Legassie. At the end of the 2nd inning MDI led 2-1.

MDI added to their lead in the 4th inning. Shelby O'Neil singled, and reached 2nd on a single by Sierra Myrick. O'Neil scored on a passed ball.

In the 5th inning MDI added another run. Avalon Kerley singled, and reached second on a passed ball and came around to score on a single by Hannah Shaw.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Presque Isle added 2 runs. Megan Seward singled, and Kelsey Gibson followed up with a single. Seward scored on a single by Carly Bell, and Gilson scored on a bases loaded walk to Chelsey Argreaves. At the end of 5 innings, MDI led 4-3.

MDI added an insurance run in the top of the 6th inning. Myrick doubled with one out, and then scored on two passed balls.

Aubrie Boyce picked up the win for MDI, pitching a 7 inning complete game, allowing 9 hits, 3 runs, all earned, walking 1 and striking out 4.

Carly Bell took the loss for Presque Isle, pitching 7 innings, allowing 15 hits, 5 runs, 3 of which were earned, walking 3 and striking out 2.

MDI is now 6-2 on the season, and hosts Hermon Tuesday May 13th at 4:30. Presque Isle is 4-3 and they play 4 games this week. They host Caribou Tuesday May 13th at 4:30, Houlton Thursday May 15 at 7 PM and host Old Town in a doubleheader Saturday May 17th at 12 Noon and 2 PM.
