MDI Kid’s Bake-Off Results
The 2019 Kids Baking Competition was open to all 4th and 5th graders in the MDI Regional School System, the Community Schools or of an equivalent age, and held at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor on Saturday, October 5th
Adult supervisors were welcome and attended but the Kids were the Bakers! Several counter top ovens were rented and bakers were able to use the gas ovens in the Neighborhood House as well. A variety of measuring and mixing equipment were on hand well and bakers were encouraged to bring their own small box of bake wares and measuring equipment.
The young bakers made everything from scratch, No mixes were allowed. The basics were provided (all organic). Flour – Eggs – Butter – Heavy Cream – Milk – Baking Powder and Soda – Vanilla & Almond Extract – Sugar. Any additional or special ingredients or other items Teams had to provide themselves (and had to be made from scratch).
Various Awards were given including 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, Most Creative, Best Presentation, healthiest, and several Honorable Mentions.
The Top 3 Teams were
Sam Curry & Stella Cole – Team – (4th grade, Conner-Emerson School) 1st Place with their Coconut and Brown Sugar Cake (topped with pineapple, bananas, and toasted coconut)
Adele Barnum & Eva Morrill –Team – (5th grade, Conners-Emerson School) 2nd Place with their Blueberry and Zucchini Cake
Aaliyah Keeley & Luna McCune – Team – (4th grade, Community School) 3rd Place with their Pumpkin Spice Cake
