MDI High School Celebrates Signing Day as 9 Student Athletes Sign to Attend College
MDI High School celebrated with 9 Student-Athletes and their families as they signed National Letters of Intent to attend various colleges and play sports at the schools.
Athletic Director Bunky Dow introduced the student-athletes.
Olivia Gray will be attending the University of Maine - Presque Isle with a major in physical education and minor in coaching. She will be playing basketball at UMPI.
While at MDI, Olivia played 4 years of Varsity Basketball. She played in the Northern Maine Championship and State Finals as a freshman. She made the McDonald's All-Star Team her senior year.
She played 4 years of Varsity Softball and 1 year of Varsity Soccer, her senior year. That team played in the Northern Maine Championship.
She also played 2 years of Varsity Golf.
Olivia is the daughter of Jennifer Gray of Southwest Harbor.
Julian Walls will be attending Oberlin College in Oho and joining their Swimming and Diving Team. Oberlin is a Division 3 College in the North Conference Athletic Conference.
Julian was on the MDI High School Varsity Swim Team for 4 years. During that time the Boy's Swim and Dive Team won 2 State Championships and 3 PVC Championships.
He played 4 years of Varsity Soccer with 1 of the teams making it to the Northern Maine Finals.
He also competed 1 year on the Outdoor Track and Field Team.
Julian is from the Town of Mount Desert and the son of Kevin and Susan.
Lelia Weir will be attending St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine and playing on the Women's Soccer Team.
Lelia played 4 years of Varsity Soccer at MDI and was Team Captain in her Junior and Senior Years. She was a 3-time PVC All-Conference First Team Selection and was a Maine Class B Regional All-Star. She was selected to be on the Northern Maine State Team her Senior Year. She is the unofficial Girl's Soccer Assist Leader.
She played 4 years of Varsity Tennis and was a PVC All-Conference First Team selection for Girl's Singles.
Lelia is the daughter of Kate and Jaime from Bar Harbor.
Sabne Costello-Sanders will be attending Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina and playing on the Women's Soccer Team
Sabine played 4 years of Varsity Soccer and was on the DSA United Soccer Club for 3 years. The MDI Soccer Team played in the Northern Maine Finals her Senior Year.
Sabine played 1 year of Basketball, competed on the Sailing Team for 1 year and played on the Ultimate Frisbee Team her Senior Year.
Sabine is the daughter of Christina and John from the Town of Bar Harbor.
Jesse Lower will be attending St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida and will be on their Men's Swim Team
Jesse has been at MDI High School for 2 years and was on the Swim and Dive Team both years. He was on the Swim and Dive Team at his previous school for 2 years before transferring to MDI.
He has competed on the Outdoor Track and Field Team for 2 years and also competed on the Cross Country Team on 1 year.
He is the son of Melissa and Edward from Southwest Harbor.
Ieuan Howell will be attending the University of Maine - Farmington and competing on the Men's Soccer Team and Track and Field Team.
Ieuan competed on the Boy's Varsity Soccer Team for 4 years, with 1 of the Teams competing in the Northern Maine Championships.
He has competed on the Outdoor and Indoor Track and Field Teams all 4 years at MDI High School
Ieuan is the don of Andrea and Gareth from the Town of Mount Desert.
AyliGrace Munro will be attending Cairn University in Langhorn, Pennsylvania and will be competing on the Women's Cross Country Team
AyliGrace competed on the Girl's Soccer Team for 3 years at MDI High School.
She was on the Outdoor Track and Field Team and finished 2nd in the State Finals for the 4x800 Relay.
She competed on the Cross Country Team her Senior Year. She finished 7th in the Maine Class B State Championship.
AyliGrace is the daughter of Amanda and Adrian from the Town of Bar Harbor.
Elena Alderman will be attending Thomas College in Waterville, Maine where she will be competing on the Women's Basketball Team. She will be studying Political Science.
Elena was on the Girls' Basketball team for 4 years.
She also competed on the Fall Cheering Team 1 year.
Elena is the daughter of Julie and Brian of the Town of Trenton.
Callahan Bryer will be attending Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts where he will be competing on the Men's Cross Country Team and studying Environmental Science.
Callahan competed on the Boy's Cross Country Team for 4 years, and was a member of the Northern Maine Championship Team in 2019 and 2021.
He also competed on the Outdoor Track and Field Team for 2 years.
Callahan is the son of Katy and Jeremy from the Town on Bar Harbor
