MDI Girls Soccer Beat Winslow 6-3 Move on to Semifinals
The 3rd seeded MDI Trojans beat the 6th seeded Winslow Black Raiders 6-3 on Wednesday, October 30th on Alumni Field in Bar Harbor in a game broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio
The game was back and forth with both teams having scoring opportunities until MDI exploded for 4 goals in 3:40.
MDI's 1st goal was scored by Lelia Weir as Daisy Granholm's shot hit the post and rebounded to Weir who buried the ball in the back of the net.
Granholm then scored 3 goals in a row. The 1st was scored with 7:23 left, as she dribbled through and beat 4 players. The 2nd, with 6:35 left was with an assist from Cadi Howell. Granholm scored her hat trick with 4:28 left, with an assist from Weir.
Winslow got on the scoreboard with 1:12 remaining, as Ashley Quirion scored with an assist from Katie Doughty.
The score at the end of the 1st Half was 4-1 MDI.
On the restart in the 2nd Half, Granholm played the ball back to Weir who booted the ball into the box, with Granholm touching it twice and blasting it into the back of the net.
Carly Wam scored for Winslow with 37:38 left to make the score 5-2.
MDI's Granholm scored her 5th goal of the game, with an assist from Weir with 1:13 remaining.
Winslow would score once more, on a penalty kick, as the Trojans were whistled for a hand ball in the box. Doughty converted the kick, to make the final 6-3.
Sabine Costello-Sanders was in net for MDI while Isabella Fleury was in goal for the Black Raiders.
MDI now 13-2 will play the #2 seed Waterville Panthers in the semifinals in Waterville.
