MDI Girls Remain Perfect Beat John Bapst 41-32 [PHOTOS]

The MDI Girls Basketball Team remained perfect on the season, defeating the John Bapst Crusaders 41-32 in Bar Harbor on Friday, December 21st. The Trojans are now 5-0 on the season.

MDI jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Maddy Candage had 4 points and Hannah Chamberlain had a 3-pointer for MDI. John Bapst's lone point came from Jamie McQuarrie as the Crusaders were 1-6 from the free throw line.

MDI increased their lead to 9 points at the end of the 2nd Quarter, outscoring John Bapst 15-12 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 22-13 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Julia Watras had 5 points for MDI with a 3-pointer. Candage had 5 points and Chamberlain drained another 3-pointer. Elizabeth Jones chipped in with 2 points for MDI. For John Bapst Lacey Scanlon had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Tianna Cyr, Jayda Smith and Emily Mock had 2 points for the Crusaders. Adelaide Valley was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI outscored John Bapst 10-4 to take a 32-17 lead at the end of 3 Quarters. Julia Watras scored 8 points and Chamberlain 2 points for MDI. For John Bapst Valley and Smith each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter John Bapst cut the lead to 5 points, as they nailed 3 3-pointes. Sydney Ellis had 7 points including 2 3's for John Bapst. Scanlon had a 3-pointe rand Mock 5 points. For MDI Watras had 5 points, Candage 2 points and Alexis Clarito went 2-2 from the free throw line to seal the game.

MDI was led by Julia Watras, who scored double figures for her 5th game of the season. Watras ended with a game high 18 points while Maddy Candage had 11 points. The Trojans were 4-13 from the free throw line.

John Bapst was led by Lacey Scanlon with 8 points while Sydney Ellis and Emily Mock finished with 7 points each. The Crusaders were 4-11 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 5-0 and off until Thursday, December 27 when they host Caribou at 6PM. Prior to that game the MDI 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Class will be inducted. That ceremony and game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device

John Bapst is 1-4 and will travel to Washington Academy to play the Raiders with a tipoff at1:30PM.
