MDI Boys Defeat Ellsworth 8-2

The MDI Trojans traveled to Ellsworth to play the Ellsworth Eagles in the last regular season game of the season and came away with an 8-2 victory.

MDI scored in the top of the 1st inning. Jon Phelps tripled to lead off the game. Hunter Cote, the Ellsworth pitcher then got Jack Sasner to line back to him, and Thomas Paola to line to second base. But Steven Hanscom then singled, scoring Phelps to give MDI the 1-0 lead.

Ellsworth would come right back in the bottom of the 1st inning. Steven Mahon doubled, and then Conor Maguire flew out to center field, forcing Mahon to stay at second. Brandon Braley flew out to right field, and Mahon went to third base after tagging up at second. Sid St. Peter then singled, scoring Mahon, and the score was tied 1-1 at the end of the 1st inning.

MDI scored 7 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, as they sent 12 batters to the plate. Phelps singled, and then stole 2nd base, and went to 3rd base when Sasner singled. Sasner stole 2nd base, and then both Phelps and Sasner scored when Paola doubled. Paola went to 3rd base when Hanscom singled.  Hanscom stole 2nd base and Riley Swanson grounded out to 1st base. Boomer Carroll  was hit by a pitch, and Andrew Davis singled, scoring Paola. Dylan Collins reached on an error by the Ellsworth right fielder, scoring Hanscom, Carroll and Collins. Ryan Littlefield ground out to second for the second out of the inning, but Collins went to third. Phelps reached on an error on the Ellsworth shortstop, scoring Collins, and Sasner then singled, but Ellsworth got out of the inning when Paola flew to left field. MDI led 8-1.

Ellsworth would get 1 run in the bottom of the 7th inning, Mahon reached on a fielder's choice, and with 2 out Conor Maguire singled, and then Brandon Braley doubled, driving in Mahon, but St. Peter grounded out to end the game.

With the victory, MDI finishes the regular season at 9-7 and Ellsworth finishes at 6-10. Both teams will be playing in the post season.
