MDI 62 Old Town 31 [Box Score]

The MDI Trojan's Girl's Basketball Team has something to prove this year, after going 18-0 in last year's regular season, but being shocked by Gardiner in the opening round of the Tournament last February. They took a positive first step, with a 62-31 victory over Old Town Friday, December 4th at Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town.

The Trojans jumped out to a 11-0 lead en route to a 16-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, Kelsey Shaw had 6 points, and Keely McConomy had 6 points for MDI. For Old Town, Olivia Albert and Mackenzie Folsom had 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter, Sierra Tapley drained 3 3-pointers for MDI and ended the quarter with 17 points, 15 in the 2nd quarter alone.Brooke Mishou had 6 points for Old Town and Mikayla Richards had a 3-pointer for the Coyotes. MDI led 33-18 at the Half.

The Trojans came out firing in the 3rd Quarter, going on a 15-0 run. Freshman Maddy Candage had 6 points, while Tapley added 5 more points and Shaw had 4 points for the Trojans. Old Town had 2 points each from Mackenzie Folsom and Caitlyn King.

MDI played reserves in the 4th Quarter and the final was 62-31.

For MDI, 8 of the 11 players scored. Julia Watras, Emma Watras and Maddy Candage all had their first varsity points. Tapley had a game high 22 points, while Shaw and Candage each ended up with double figures, 10 points each. MDI was 2-7 from the free throw line.

Old Town was led by Brooke Mishow with 7 points and Mackenzie Folsom had 6 points. The Coyotes were 14-21 from the free throw line.

MDI 1-0 plays at Washington Academy Wednesday, December 9 with the pregame starting at 6:45 and tip off at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Old Town 0-1 plays in Lincoln against Mattanawcook Academy on Wednesday, December 9th at 7 PM.
