MDI 38 Gray-New Gloucester 14 [STATS & PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans Football Team beat Gray-New Gloucester 38-14 to open the 2024 season at Alumni Field in Bar Harbor.

The Trojans dominated the 1st Half, outgaining the Patriots 220-84 yards. Defensively, the Trojans forced Gray-New Gloucester to punt the ball twice and turn the ball over on downs on their other possession.

Gray -New Gloucester's lone points in the 1st Half came on a 75 yard kickoff return by Brody Tracy.

MDI won the opening coin toss and elected to defer. After a punt MDI marched up the field 75 yards, capping the 3:37 drive when Nate Olson bulled in from 4 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 8-0.

The Trojans then took the ball and marched up the field, going 57 yards and taking 3:49. When Evan Mackenzie ran in from 2 yards out it was 14-6 and after Cal Hodgdon ran in for the 2-point conversion the Trojans led 16-6.

After another punt, MDI marched up the field 79 yards. Nate Olson scored his 2nd touchdown of the night, this time from 2 yards out. Hodgdon again ran in the 2-point conversion and MDI led 24-6.

Gray New-Gloucester's next possession resulted in a turnover on downs, and MDI ran out the clock, leading 24-6 at the half.

It only took 1 play for MDI to find the end zone, after they took over at their own 35 yard line. Lincoln Gray busted a 65 yard run into the end zone. The 2-point conversion was no-good as the pass was incomplete and with 11:47 left in the 3rd Quarter, MDI led 30-6.

The Trojans would make it 38-6 when Cal Hodgdon completed a 67 yard pass and run to Jarron Biekert. The 2-point conversion was good, as Hodgdon ran in the end zone.

Gray-New Gloucester would score with 4:41 left in the game, when Kobi Conant completed a 50 yard pass and run to Isaac Ormberg. The 2-point conversion was good and the final score was 38-14.

Alister Frongillo had an interception for MDI. MDI was only flagged twice in the game.

MDI is now 1-0 and will play at Orono on Friday, September 13th with the kickoff at 7 p.m. That game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Gray-New Gloucester is 0-1. The will host Sacopee Valley on Friday, September 13th at 6 p.m.
