The Boston Red Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals 3-2 on Friday, September 11th at Fenway Park. The Red Sox were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 8 runners on base. They had the potential tying-run in scoring position in both the 5th and 8th innings but just couldn't get the big hit.

Sonny Gray took the loss and is now 17-5. He allowed 3 runs in his 1st 3 inning bust then held the Royals scoreless in his final 3 innings. He finished pitching 6.0 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, striking out 5 and walking 2.

Mickey Gaspar was 1-3 with a solo home run, his 9th of the season in the 5th inning.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-4 with a double, driving in a run in the 5th inning.

Trevor Story was 1-4 with a double in the 8th inning. He has hit safely in 10 of the 11 games he has played since being activated from the 60-day injured list.
