If you were driving on Route 1A between Town Hill and Bangor sometime this morning, October 29th between 7 a.m and 2 p.m. you probably saw a hearty group of runners carrying an Olympic style torch running between some police cars

It was all part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Law enforcement personnel throughout Maine yearly take part in a Torch Run for the Special Olympics.

COVID has impacted the Torch Run in the past year, and the fund raising efforts for Special Olympics. Normally the Ellsworth Police Department with the cooperation of other Downeast Maine agencies hosts a Tip-A-Cop event with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics, but haven't been able to, because of COVID and restrictions.

Thanks to those running this morning, and to all the motorists on Route 1A who slowed down and honked in encouragement!
