It’s Time to Sign Up for MDI Community Youth Basketball Open to Grades 1-5

The MDI Community Youth Basketball Program will begin on December 11, 2021 and is a collaboration between Acadian Youth Sports, The Harbor House in Southwest Harbor, The Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor, the MDI YMCA in Bar Harbor and the Lamoine Recreation Department.

This year, two programs will be held. The 1st program will be held for 1st and 2nd graders. The 2nd program will be held for those children in Grades 3, 4 and 5.

GRADES 1 & 2 Program
This program will consist of 5 game sessions to support athletes with a solid foundation of fundamental basketball skills within game-play. Developmentally appropriate coaching and game-play will support the process and the love of the game.

Individual recreation programs will hold weekly practices with their coaches to introduce, reinforce, and further develop the skills being fostered in Saturday games.

Saturday game dates and times are as follows, all will be held at Pemetic Elementary School in Southwest Harbor

GRADES 3-5 Progam:
This program will consist of 3 game sessions and 2 clinic sessions to support athletes with a foundation of fundamental basketball skills within game-play. Developmentally appropriate coaching and game-play will support the process and the love of the game. Clinics will focus on a progression of activities, and will be led by a variety of coaches and volunteers from local rec programs and High School teams TBD.

Individual recreation programs will hold weekly practices with their coaches to introduce, reinforce, and further develop the skills being fostered in Saturday games and clinics.
