Island Teachers Give Back to Community
Kudos to members of the Mount Desert Island Education Association (MDIEA) who in December raised $765.00 to donate to the Backpack Program, OpenTable MDI and the Bar Harbor Food Pantry.
Teachers and staff participated in numerous fundraising event including "4 Thursdays" where Mount Desert Elementary School teachers and staff paid $2.00 each week to participate in December Spirit Thursdays. The themes were Holiday Headwear, LumberJill and LumberJack, Candy Cane and Ugly Sweater.
At MDI High School the MDIEA sponsored a staff cookie "contest" in which everyone voted for their favorite cookie with their money. "Vote early and often" had a whole new meaning and the faculty had an enjoyable morning mingling, munching and raising money. The only loser was their waistlines!
At Trenton Elementary, donations in memory of former Trenton Staff member Bev Linek were collected through the month.
The MDIEA is made up of teachers and staff from schools in Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton and MDI High School.
