The 3rd time was a charm for the Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team, as they beat the MDI Trojans 35-33 on Tuesday, February 11th in a Girls Class B Prelim game played at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor. Trinity Montigny stripped the ball and raced from half court laying the winning basket off the glass with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game.

The game was eerily similar to the last time when Ellsworth beat MDI 35-31 back on January 10, 2019 when Montigny stole the ball and scored.

MDI led 9-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Olivia Gray drained 2 3's for 6 points for MDI and Elizabeth Jones had 2 points with Rachelle Swanson going 1-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth Casey Carter and Sierra Andrews each had a 3-pointer and Autumn Paul had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored MDI 6-5 to make the score 14-14 at the end of  the 1st Half. Kylie Robidoux was 2-2 from the free throw line and Jocelyn Jordan and Trinity Montigny each had 2 points. For MDI Olivia Gray had another 3-pointer and was 1-2 from the free throw line, tying the score with 0.9 seconds left. Elena Alderman was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored MDI 11-3 to take a 25-17 lead. Montigny had 7 points with a 3-pointer. Jordan and Andrews each had 2 points for the Eagles. MDI's lone points came from Olivia Gray, draining her 4th 3-pointer of the night.

In the 4th Quarter MDI came charging back to tie the score. Leah Caroll had 6 points with a 3-pointer before fouling out. Emily Carter hit a key 3-pointer. Rachelle Swanson had 4 points and Elena Alderman had 3 points. For Ellsworth, Montigny had 9 points and Sierra Andrews had 1 point.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with a game high 18 points. Sierra Andrews had 6 points. The Eagles were 8-13 from the free throw line

MDI was led by Olivia Gray with 13 points while Leah Carrol had 6 points. The Trojans were 7-14 from the free throw line.

MDI's season come's to an end, with the loss and the Trojans finish with an 11-8 record.

Ellsworth, now 11-8 advances to the Cross Insurance Center, where they will play the #2 seeded Waterville Panthers in the Quarterfinals, Friday, February 15th at 5 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
