You'll want to circle August 17th on your calendar for the Annual Touch-A-Train event that will be held at the Washington Junction Yard, 8 Railroad Siding in Hancock.

This FREE event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The New England Steam Corporation and Downeast Scenic Railroad invite everyone to take a ride in a caboose, ride in a railroad speeder car, blow a real steam train whistle or ring a real locomotive bell.

You'll be able to explore an active railyard, climb in the cab of a working diesel locomotive and check out the rest of Downeast Scenic's historic railroad equipment, all of which will be on display.

Visitors can also tour New England Steam's restoration ship and see the progress on Maine Central steam locomotive #470, the largest surviving steam locomotive in New England.

At 10:30 a.m. the Downeast Scenic's excursion train will depart from the adjacent Washington Junction station. This midday excursion covers 8 miles round trip for a 1 hour experience. Train tickets for the day are $2.00 off the regular prices.

At 1:30 there will be a 12 mile round trip, for a hour and 45 minute experience.
