In the final regular season game of the season, the Ellsworth Eagles nipped the MDI Trojans 2-1 in a very quick moving game on Senior Day in Bar Harbor. It was a classic pitching duel, as Ellsworth sent senior ace Kate Whitney to the circle and MDI countered with freshman Lindsey McEachern.

In the top of the 1st inning, Ellsworth had the bases loaded, with 1 out, but MDI managed to get out of the inning without allowing a run.

MDI pushed across a run to take an early lead in the bottom of the 1st. Avalon Kerley was hit by a pitch with 2 out. She then went wild on the bases, stealing 2nd, 3rd and finally home, to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the top of the 6th inning. With 1 out, Breann Cummings doubled and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Katelynn Bagley walked and stole 2nd. Abby Lynch hit a 3-2 pitch up the middle, scoring both Cummings and Bagley.

That was all the scoring as Ellsworth ended up on top 2-1.

MDI finishes the season with a 3-13 record, and unfortunately will not be in the playoffs.

Ellsworth finishes with a 11-5 record and are currently in 6th place in the Heal Point Standings. If Caribou defeats Presque Isle on Wednesday afternoon, or GSA defeats Mattanawcook Academy, then the Eagles will leapfrog Nokomis and move up into 5th place. If Presque Isle wins, Ellsworth will likely stay in 6th place. In either case, the Eagles will host a prelim game on June 7th.
