Eagles Win in Double Overtime 57-53

The Ellsworth Eagles Girl's Basketball Team defeated the Washington Academy Raiders in East Machias on Monday, January 23rd 57-53 in double overtime!

The Eagles jumped out to a 13-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Katelynn Bagley had 5 points, Sammy Mason had 4 points and Trinity Montigny and Callie Hammer had 2 points each for the Eagles. For Washington Academy Cailyn Lyons had 6 points and Paige Richardson had 4 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, Washington Academy trimmed the lead by 1 point, as Ellsworth led 21-19 at the Half. For Washington Academy Rylea Steeves had 4 points, River Hodgdon had a 3-pointer and Caitlyn Lyons had 2 points. For Ellsworth Trinity Montigny had 4 points, while Callie Hammer and Katelynn Bagley had 2 points each.

Washington Academy took a 35-28 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Rylea Steeves had 7 points for Washington Academy, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer, while Jaiden Veal had 7 points too. For Ellsworth, Trinity Montigny and Sammy Mason each had a 3-pointer and Callie Hammer went 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth outscored Washington Academy 15-8 in the 4th Quarter to tie the score at 43-43 and force overtime. Katelyn Bagley had 5 points, Sammy Mason had 4 points, while Trinity Montigny and Hannah Sargent had 3 points each. Montigny sank 1-2 free throws with 3.9 seconds left in regulation to force the game into overtime. For Washington Academy Caitlyn Lyons had 4 points, River Hodgdon had a 3-pointer and Jaiden Veal had 1 point. In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth's Sammy Mason and Callie Hammer fouled out of the game.

In the 1st Overtime Trinity Montigny had 5 points and Kacie Omlor chipped in 2 points for Ellsworth.  For Washington Academy Paige Richardson had 4 points, Lydia Day had 2 points and Jaiden Veal had 1 point, as the score remained deadlocked at 50-50.

In Double Overtime Trinity Montigny had 4 points, going 4-4 from the free throw line, while Katelynn Bagley had 2 points and Kacie Omlor was 1-2 from the free throw line.  For Washington Academy Rylea Steeves had 2 points and Jaiden Veal was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny had a game high 21 points, going 12-16 from the free throw line. Katelynn Bagley had 14 points and Sammy Mason had 11 points. Ellsworth was 25-41 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy was led by Caitlyn Lyons with 14 points while Rylea Steeves had 13 points and Jaiden Veal had 10 points. Washington Academy was 12-24 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 6-7 and plays at Caribou on Friday, January 27th at 4:30 PM.

Washington Academy is now 5-8 and plays John Bapst at the Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday, January 24th at 7 PM.
