Coast Guard Saves Four Fisherman Off Rockland
Our U.S. military saved the day yet again!
A call for help was sent out from the 76-foot fishing vessel Aaron & Melissa II at around 7:45 this Wednesday morning while 60 miles off the coast of Rockland. The boat was taking on water and the four fisherman aboard were getting ready to abandon into the 50 degree water.
According to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard, "An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrews launched from Air Station Cape Cod and located the raft and fishermen."
A swimmer was dispatched from the helicopter in the midst of 20-foot seas and 30-knot winds and the fisherman were hoisted aboard. All were reported to be in good condition.
All were then transported to the Brunswick Executive Airport in Brunswick, Maine, where they were met by emergency medical service personnel and transported to Mid Coast Hospital.
The photo above shows the four rescued fisherman and the Coast Guardsmen that were involved. Job well done, everyone!
