Amazing Creatures Underwater Off of Maine’s Coast [PHOTOS]
When your friend is Miss Maine for America Strong and a sternwoman on the F/V Victoria and an amazing photographer, you are treated to some amazing photos of creatures caught underwater off of Maine's Coast!
Patricia Schimpf sent me the following photos of a lumpfish that was caught in a lobster trap on June 21st in Islesford Harbor
According to Patricia
Aka “cyclopterus lumpis.” Its pelvic fins form suction discs on its belly which it uses to attach strongly to rocks or other surfaces. While it is not unusual to see lump fish come up in lobster traps, it is unusual to see them this vivid red color!
Now supposedly it is good luck to kiss each one before returning them to the water, and with those lips how could you resist?!
We are thinking that the lumpfish is the lucky one to have kissed Miss Maine for America Strong!
