Statement From the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce on the Governor’s Reopening Plan for the State
Gretchen Wilson, the Executive Director of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce released the following statement on Tuesday night, April 28th on Governor Mill's plan for the safe reopening of Maine's economy, on behalf of the Chamber
While the phased reopening of Maine's economy, in Governor Mills address, was not unexpected, there are still many concerns and questions that I hope will be addressed in the days ahead. Our economy, "Maine's Economy", is driven first and foremost by tourism. I do not know of a single business sector that does not get an economic boost from Maine's tourism industry.
Hancock County is particularly vulnerable. With the playground of New England; Acadia National Park in our backyards, the tourism season is THE single economic driver. To say I am concerned for our businesses would be an understatement.
YOUR Chamber will continue to work with our state partners in retail, tourism hospitality and government to push forward your needs, and concerns for our economic livelihood while remaining aware of the health issues confronting us.
