One person is dead after a single-vehicle accident in the Washington County town of Pembroke.

The driver, Michael Kilby, 35, of Edmunds died. The passenger, Matthew Seeley, 40, of Edmunds was taken to the hospital by helicopter for serious injuries.

The accident happened along Route 214, which is also known as the Ayers Junction Road,  according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland. It was mid-morning when a truck crashed, killing one person. Pembroke is about 30 miles north of Machias.

Both men were not wearing seat belts, and they were hauling a load of scrap metal on the trailer, police said.

The accident is currently being investigated by the State Police.
