The Maine State Police were contacted and an Investigator with the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office who is also a tech with the Maine State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team responded.
Upon arrival the Tech located and inspected the device and determined that it was in fact a shell of a hand grenade, however the explosive core had been removed making it inert. An inspection of the remaining items in the area where the grenade had been discovered showed no other devices.
