On Saturday, April 18th at approximatey 9:16 p.m. the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 3 in the area of Hamilton's Pond.

Officer Judson Cake attempted to stop the black Subaru Impreza but the vehicle failed to stop. Officer Nathan Formsby was in the Hulls Cove area of Route 3 and attempted to assist in positively identifying the offending vehicle's registration pate and stop the vehicle.

As Officer Formsby arrived in the the area of Eden Street and the Crooked Road, with his his blue emergency lights activated, the vehicle was traveling towards Officer Formsby's location. The vehicle entered the oncoming lane and struck the Bar Harbor   and Mount Desert Police cruiser that Officer Formsby was operating.

Officer Formsby was not injured. The operator of the Subaru was taken by ambulance to MDI Hospital.

The Bar Harbor Mount Desert Police Department contacted the Main State Police to investigate the incident. That section of Route 3 was closed while the crash was reconstructed. The investigation is ongoing.
