Spring is for Squirrels

We have two dogs, Wishbone who is about 16 and is a Fox Terrier. As you would expect, he's kind of sedentary given his age. Then there's Bob, our Australian Shepherd who we rescued almost 2 and a half years ago. Bob is 3 years old, and he loves to chase squirrels!

I can tell it's finally springtime in Maine because all of a sudden, we've seen a bunch of squirrels! There's a house right on the corner of our street that has chestnut trees on the property. The squirrels love it, and consequently it's Bob's favorite house to walk by when we go for walks. It's so much fun to see him go into ninja mode! He'll quietly start to sneak around the hedges, being careful not to make any noise. He'll pause, take a sniff or two, and then explode around chasing the squirrels up the tree. Bob will then stand there, looking upwards as the squirrels start to chatter. There have even been times when they've dislodged chestnuts, and Bob and I have had to dodge them as they "fall" towards us!

Bob likes to sit on the back porch too! We have a dog door so during the spring, summer and fall he can go in and out as he wishes. Sometimes, we will even see the squirrels coming into our backyard. They just like to torment Bob, knowing he can't get to them! Bob will just pace back and forth, barking at them! They're so mean!

On the back of my car, I have a decal that say's "Who Rescued Who?" I'm convinced that Bob was meant to be in our family, and somehow he chose us! So watch out squirrels.. we're coming to get you!
