Hundreds of people will be walking the Ellsworth track tonight, May 30th and early May 31st as they raise tens of thousands of dollars to fight cancer in the annual Relay for Life event. I hate cancer! As you may know, cancer has affected me personally, as I have had two episodes of cancer, my mother has had cancer, and my father has had it twice too. Five episodes of cancer between myself, mother and father makes me uniquely qualified to tell you that cancer sucks!

I have participated in a couple of Relay for Life events, and when I have walked in the survivor laps to kick off the event, it's a tremendously emotional moment. It's a time for survivors, those with cancer, and caregivers to walk the track, usually to applause from everyone else. On a night when it's cold, as temps drop into the 40's, I'm thinking of everyone walking, and thank you for your time, your efforts in raising funds, and wish you a great time.

I love that Relay for Life brings together generations in the fight to defeat cancer. One of the best nights I have during every season is when I broadcast the Breast Cancer Awareness games. Whether it's football, soccer or basketball, I love how everyone comes together. We all know someone who's had or has cancer.
