Just like October 1st was National Black Dog Day, today, October 27th is a chance to show all the Black Cats some love! It is National Black Cat Day! Have a black cat? Please post their picture in the comments!

I never knew until we had a black dog, that Black Dogs and Black Cats were discriminated against. Black animals are the least adoptable pets in shelters because of their color.

Black dogs and cats are overlooked because of many stigmas such as; the color black is evil , they do not show up as well in photographs as muti-colored or light colored dogs and cats and black dogs and cats look scary and intimidating because you cannot see their facial expressions as easily, etc. Black dogs and cats are easily overlooked when people are searching for a new dog or cat and the first to be euthanized in overcrowded conditions.

Interested in adopting a black cat? Check out those waiting for their fur-ever home at the SPCA of Hancock County, the Ark Animal Shelter in Cherryfield, or at the Bucksport Animal Shelter?
