The Maine Principal's Classification Committee met earlier this week, and are recommending to the full association that basketball switch from 4 classes to 5 classes and instead of dividing the State in East and West Divisions, there will be North and South Divisions..

If the Maine Principal's vote to accept the committee's recommendation, there will be a Class AA for schools with enrollment of 824 plus with one statewide class of 17 schools. Class A would be for schools with enrollment of 545-823. There would be 14 schools in the North Division and 13 schools in the South Division. Class B would consist of schools with enrollments of 325-544 and there would be 17 schools in the North Division and 13 in the South Division. Class C would consist of schools with enrollment of 131-324 with 18 schools in the North Division and 21 schools in the South. Finally Class D would consist of schools with enrollment of 150 and less, and there would be 14 in the North Division and 12 in the South Division.

The new Class B North would consist of Presque Isle, Belfast, MDI,Hermon, Old Town, Winslow, Foxcroft Academy, Ellsworth, Mount View, Caribou, John Bapst, Washington Academy, Central, Mattanawcook Academy, Orono, Houlton and MCI.

So, Washington Academy, Central, Mattanawcook Academy, Orono, and Houlton would move from the old Class C to the new Class B. Leaving the old Class B and moving up to Class A would be Camden Hills, Nokomis, Gardiner, Waterville, Oceanside, Erskine Academy and Medomak Valley.
