MDI Hospital announced on Wednesday, May 12th  this year’s recipients of the 2021 Ursula E.J. Lee & Dr. Leung Lee Memorial Award for Nursing Excellence.  The four honorees were Julie Bouchard, RN, Jocelyn Trenholm, RN, Ashley Boudreau, RN and Jocelyn Heim, RN,

The award was established and by Dr. Leung Lee in 2019 in memory of his wife Ursula to recognize and honor excellence in nursing care at MDI Hospital.  The award was rededicated in memory of both Ursula E.J & Dr. Leung Lee in 2021 by their son Brian Lee, who participated in the recognition ceremony held on May 12, 2021.   Awards were presented this year by Chrissi Maguire, President and CEO and Karen Mueller, Vice President and CNO of MDI Hospital.

About the Award Winners

Julie Bouchard, RN, is part of MDI Hospital’s Integrated Care Team.  Her patients with chronic conditions appreciate Julie’s outreach and advocacy on their behalf and report it makes a real difference to the quality of their lives.  She is tenacious about connecting patients to resources they need and provides a vital role facilitating communications with multiple providers involved in their care.  Julie dedicates herself to seeking out best practice and learning from others to ensure she provides the highest quality of care.  Julie also plays a vital role in MDI Hospital’s COVID-19 Vaccination effort, providing immunizations to many in the community.

Jocelyn Trenholm, RN, works on MDI Hospital’s Med/Surg Unit. Jocelyn is known for her compassionate care, taking the time to assist her patients with their medical needs, and “giving them her all.”   She also takes the time to support patients in more personal ways, such as cutting and styling hair, doing nails and other things to pamper and connect with them.  Jocelyn’s colleagues appreciate her as a true team player as she is always willing to help others.  Jocelyn, who was a CNA and recently became an RN, takes a very special interest in mentoring and inspiring CNA’s to continue their education, just as she did.  Jocelyn also shares to administer vaccines at MDI Hospital’s COVID-19 Vaccine clinics.

Ashley Boudreau, RN, is MDI Hospital’s Employee Health Nurse.  She has played a vital role in supporting the hospital employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring employee safety and well-being, compassionately relieving fears, and making herself available any day of the week or time of day to answer employee questions.  Ashley’s effort in this capacity required continual monitoring of changes to OSHA guidance and clinical practice, serving on leadership teams and committees to share this knowledge, and developing, implementing, and communicating changes to policy and procedure.  Ashley is a change agent, recognized as an innovator at MDI Hospital and is a true advocate for staff.

Jocelyn Heim, RN, works in MDI Hospital’s Emergency Department. Jocelyn demonstrates leadership and excellence in her delivery of patient-centered care.  With her deep understanding of social, personal and economic factors that impact a patient’s well-being, her outstanding practical and technical skills, and her remarkable communication skills, Jocelyn is able to support her patients and their families during emergency care encounters with great understanding and compassion.  Jocelyn is a true collaborator and role model for the Emergency Department team.  She is quick to identify opportunities to improve care practice, seeks out information to improve process, and provides sound solutions. Jocelyn is a trusted preceptor and mentor, creatively employing strategies to foster both the personal and professional growth of those she is teaching.
