Why Do People Come To Bangor To Gawk At Stephen King’s House?
This past Sunday, there was an unusually large number of people on West Broadway.
Stephen King's house, you just can’t drive down West Broadway in Bangor, without seeing someone gawking at it (trust me, I know. I live right in the neighborhood.) Just about every single day, when I drive past that street, you can see at least one parked car on the side of the road, and a group of people taking pics, trying to jump the fence, or just being super happy to be there in general. Living near there, it's all normal to me, but folks from all over the world descend there to get a look.
Over the weekend, I just happened to drive down West Broadway, on a normal Sunday afternoon, about 1pm, and I saw at least 6 cars parked out front, and about 15 to 20 people milling about in front.
King is a Mainer of course, and has lived in Bangor since around 1980. His home has been an attraction ever since then. The outside iron gates of this Bangor estate makes it obvious that it is his house. There are bat-winged creatures and spider detailing on the tall fence, which clearly gives it all away.
Fans come from all around the world to stand in front of this epic house to take photos. But these days, Stephen, and his wife Tabitha, for the most part, now live in their second home in Florida for more privacy.
If you have ever had a photo op in front of the house, feel free to share your picture. In fact, we put together an entire gallery full of them, since it just seems to be a thing to do when you come to Bangor!
