Maine’s Top ‘Hidden Gem’ Place to See Fall Foliage

Fall is officially underway. One recent study says Maine is the 10^th most popular state to visit in the fall.  Number one on their list is California, which really doesn’t have a fall season.

And each fall we see stunning examples of fall foliage. So, there is that to look forward to.

We can be grateful we don’t have to travel very far to see the best examples of leaves changing colors. The most dazzling displays are right out our door.

For those that do travel if you are looking for a hidden gem of a place to see the leaves fall colors in all their glory, Mixbook put together a list of where to go and not have huge crowds.

That list contained a Maine gem at #5 saying:

Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is distanced from the usual tourist paths and presents a peaceful setting where nature takes center stage. Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is in Penobscot County and is operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Bold Coast Preserve is part of the Cutler Coast public reserved land and stretches from Cutler to Lubec Maine.

And Tumbledown Mountain is in Western Maine in Franklin County.
