Maine’s Bar Harbor Ranked One of America’s Most Beautiful Proposal Spots

A new study has ranked Bar Harbor, Maine among the most picturesque waterfront proposal spots in America, placing it at number seven nationwide.

The research, conducted by travel experts at BoatBooker, analyzed waterfront destinations across the United States to determine which locations offer the most unforgettable proposal settings. Rankings were based on a combined "Waterfront Proposal Score" that factored in Google Maps ratings, Instagram hashtag popularity, and TikTok engagement.

According to Boat Booker, Bar Harbor earned an impressive score of 82.28, backed by a near-perfect 4.80 Google Maps rating. The destination also showed strong social media appeal, with more than 363,000 Instagram posts and over 20,000 TikTok posts highlighting the scenic coastal town.

According to Vukan Simic, travel expert and CEO of BoatBooker, Bar Harbor’s classic New England charm makes it especially appealing for couples planning a proposal.

"Bar Harbor and the surrounding Acadia coastline offer a classic New England aesthetic that is highly sought after for proposals," Simic explained. "The rocky shores are stunning, but the best vantage point is undeniably from the water looking back at the land."

Simic says couples looking for an especially memorable experience should consider getting out on the water. Chartering a sailboat or small motorboat in Frenchman Bay can provide breathtaking views of the coastline, cliffs, and lighthouse, creating what he describes as a timeless proposal setting.

The top spots in the rankings included Monterey Bay, California, Lake Havasu, Arizona, and Big Bear Lake, California. Tampa Bay, Florida and Puget Sound, Washington also ranked ahead of Maine's Bar Harbor.

Still, Bar Harbor stood out as the only Maine destination to make the top 10, highlighting the state's reputation for scenic coastal beauty and romantic waterfront views.

With summer approaching and engagement season always around the corner, Bar Harbor may be one of the most memorable places in the country to ask one of life’s biggest questions.
