Free, Family Friendly Activities in Downeast Maine July 17-23
It's the 3rd week of July and chances are the kids are bored from being out of school. If you're looking for some family-friendly, fun and free events this week, we have these listings for you!
Monday July 17
- Bar Harbor Town Band - Will perform at the Village Green from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place at the First Congregational Church
Tuesday July 18
- Ellsworth Public Library - 4-H Family Story Time 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.-Ideal for children ages 3-6. Families are welcome. Join the Library staff for a story in the Riverview Room
- Bar Harbor - Jesup Memorial Library - Baby and Toddler Time - 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Join Abby for fingerplays, songs, and stories! Older siblings are welcome to join in
- Southwest Harbor - A Conversation between Alice Elliot Dark and Christina Baker Kline -5:30 p.m. - Join the Southwest Harbor Public Library on the lawn of St. John's Church for a conversation between Alice Elliot Dark, author of Fellowship Point and local bestselling author Christina Baker Kline.
Wednesday July 19
- Southwest Harbor Public Library - Baby Story Time 10 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Join Amanda for stories, songs, rhymes, books, bubbles, and more outside in our children's garden. If there is inclement weather, storytime will be held inside the library in the Holmes room. Baby Storytime is designed especially for babies under two years, but we are family friendly and we welcome siblings.
- Bar Harbor - Jesup Memorial Library - Middle School Crafternoon -3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Middle Schoolers: join the Jesup for a laid back crafternoon. Tweens ages 9-13 are welcome. - Northeast Harbor Public Library -Antonio Galera Children's Concert - 10:30 a.m. Award winning musician Antonio Galera will be performing a children's piano concert in the Mellon Room. All ages are welcome. Registration is required. Register HERE
- Northeast Harbor Public Library - Author Talk: Alice Elliott Dark in conversation with Caitlin Shetterly -5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Alice Elliott Dark, author of the bestselling novel Fellowship Point, will speak in conversation with writer Caitlin Shetterly.
- Ellsworth Public Library - Scot Cannon 6 p.m to 7 p.m. Scot is a talented mine, a gifted musician and a dedicated educator who's been teaching and inspiring young people for over 30 years. Come enjoy Mime and Music!
- Ellsworth Concert Band -The concert take place at the gazebo in Harbor Park. The Band practices at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night, followed by the concert beginning at 7 p.m.
- Bar Harbor - Seaside Cinema The Iron Giant will be shown at 8:13 p.m. in Agamont Park
Thursday July 20
- Ellsworth Public Library - Story Time - For children aged 2 through 5 and their parents or caregivers featuring stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and crafts 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. For more information contact Keli at kgancos@ellsworthlibrary.net or call (207) 667-6363
- Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor - Summer Reading: "Bee Baroque with Daniel Pyle 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Join the Jesup for a concert with Daniel Pyle from the Bar Harbor Music Festival!
- Ellsworth Public Library - Mr. Harley 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Harley Smith is a children's musician better known as Mr. Harley. He has been entertaining kids of all ages up and down the East Coast for almost 2 decades.
- Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor - Writing Women and Maine: A Conversation with Caitlin Shetterly and Alice Elliot Dark 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information Click HERE

- Ellsworth - Movies by Moonlight - DC League of Super Pets will be shown at 8:12 p.m. at Knowlton Park
Friday July 21
- Southwest Harbor Public Library - Family Story Time 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join Ms. Chrissy for stories, songs, rhymes, books, bubbles, and more outside in our children's garden. If there is inclement weather, storytime will be held inside the library in the Holmes room
- Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor - Preschool Story and Play 10:30 a.m.
- Ellsworth Public Library - Crafting Together 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Join Miss Keli and Miss Renee for a Maine-themed craft that can be done with the whole family. This will be held in the Riverview Room.
- Ellsworth Waterfront Concert Series - Gus Lacasse and Caroline Cotter will be performing at the Gazebo in Ellsworth's Harbor Park at 6 p.m.
- Milbridge - Milbridge Theater and Community Arts Center presents Friday Night Live! – Darlin' Corey Trio-.Music begins at 6:30 p.m.. The Milbridge Theatre Outdoor Stage is now located on the waterfront of the Milbridge Town Marina (Bayview Rd. Milbridge)
Saturday July 22
- Ellsworth Public Library - Join Miss Renee for a STEAM inspired activity in the Makerspace 10 a.m. - 12 Noon This will be a drop-in program geared towards children ages 6 to 12.
- Southwest Harbor Public Library - Acadia Explorers- Carroll Homestead, Theme - Stone Walls 10 a.m. The Southwest Harbor Public Library is teaming up with Acadia National Park to offer this adventurous outdoor education program for kids in Grades K-5. Registrants will receive a free book at each program. Children must be accompanied by adults. Registration is required. You can do so HERE
- Ellsworth Public Library - Teen Book Club - 12 noon to 1 p.m. Join Adriana to discuss books, eat snacks or make a themed craft. This month the Teen Book Club will be reading "We Deserve Monuments" by Jas Hammonds.
Make sure you bring bug spray, chairs and/or blankets to these outdoor activities.
