Ellsworth 2021 Card Brook & Roadside Clean-Up Info

Thursday, April 22nd, is Earth Day, which is a celebration of the planet that we live on and a reminder to make a conscious effort to keep it clean.

Two events coming up in Ellsworth will do just that.

The annual Card Brook clean-up will take place that following Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. until noon. Card Brook is part of the Union River watershed and runs under High Street and then between TD Banknorth and Pizza Hut, and then down the hill where it empties into the River itself. Clean up volunteers in the past have found just about everything in the Brook, including old tires and grocery carts.

Volunteers for the Card Brook clean-up will meet to the left of Hannaford in the parking lot by the bottle shed, where they can register and receive instruction. Trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizer and water will be provided. Make sure you dress like you'll be standing in muddy water, which you will be.

Then on Sunday the 25th, the 4th annual Roadside Clean-up will begin and run for a week. This is where volunteers collect trash from the roadsides within various assigned areas of the City, and after doing so, they will then leave what they've collected within yellow bags right there on the side of the road, so that Public Works employees can come along and pick them up.

Beginning on Monday, April 19th, volunteers can stop by City Hall and pick up the yellow trash bags and sign up for roadside "segments." When done you'll have to report where you have left the bags. They also ask that you please put any returnable bottles in a separate bag and then donate them to the SPCA of Hancock County on the Bar Harbor Road in Trenton.

They may not be owned by the original owners, and they may not look the same as they did years and years ago. But that same hometown feeling is there, the minute you set foot on their wooden floors. More than likely the same wooden floors that your grandparents set foot on.
