The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Interior Hancock, Central Washington, coastal Hancock, Coastal Washington and Southern Penobscot Counties from 7 a.m. on Saturday January 29th through 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 30th.

Even though we are expecting snowfall of 11 to 18 inches, that doesn't make it a blizzard!

To qualify as a blizzard the storm must

  1. Be at least 35 mph (56 km/h)
  2. Visibility must be reduced to a quarter-mile or less
  3. Last for at least three hours.

The National Weather Service warns that during a blizzard there will be whiteout conditions and that travel during this time will be extremely dangerous. If you have to travel you are advised to have a winter survival kit with you and if you get stranded stay in your vehicle!
