Disposing of Your Christmas Tree in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth
Now that Christmas has come and gone, there's the question of what to do with your Christmas Tree. If you have an artificial tree, you just put it back in the box and store it away for another year, but if you had a "real" tree, it becomes a bit more problematic.
If you are a Bar Harbor resident, Public Works Director Chip Reeves asks that you bring the tree to the Public Works Building in Hulls Cove. Do NOT bring them to the temporary transfer station.
In Ellsworth, the City does not accept Christmas Trees. You can bring them to Ellsworth Waste Services, 15 Industrial Road, in Ellsworth, located behind the City Transfer Station. Normally there is a $5.00 minimum fee, but in the spirit of the holidays they may not charge you for disposing of 1 small tree.
Remember if you are going to burn your tree, you will need to get a burn permit from your local municipality.
