One of the things I hate about winter is that it get dark so early at night, and so late in the morning! It seems like I'm walking the dogs in the dark, and then driving to broadcast the basketball games in the dark when I leave work. For some people, Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real disease.

The good news, is that today, the Winter Solstice, the first day of winter, is the day with the shortest amount of daylight, and from now on, the length of daylight will start to increase. In Bar Harbor, today, sunrise was at 7:04 and sunset will be at 3:58. That's only 8 hours and 54 minutes of daylight. But, take heart, because on New Year's Eve, just 10 days from now, sunrise will be at 7:07 and sunset will be at 4:05. That's 8 hours and 58 minutes of daylight, a gain of 4 minutes. It may not seem like much, but it's an improvement!

For those of us who can't wait until Spring, the first day of Spring is March 20, 2018!
