Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s on Tuesday, June 24th in Downeast Maine. The Heat Index, which is the "feels like" temperature will be up to 102 degrees!

Two old-reliable ways to cool off are not available.

The Splash Pad in Ellsworth is still undergoing repairs. They are resealing the surface, and the hope is that the Ellsworth Splash Pad will be ready to open for the season in early July!

The Glen Mary Wading Pool in Bar Harbor is still closed, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Village Improvement Association is working on getting that reopened now that the Shore Path has been restored. Hopes are that it might be ready for 2026!

But, without those 2 options what are you to do?

Luckily, if you live Downeast, the Atlantic Ocean isn't that far away.

Luckily there is Seal Harbor Beach, off of Route 3 that is free and offers a nice beach with room to wade in.

Of course there is Sand Beach in Acadia National Park, with its cold water which would probably feel ideal today!

To access Sand Beach you'll need a Park Pass. If you don't have an annual pass you can purchase a 7 day pass for your vehicle which entitles the vehicle and passengers entrance for 7 consecutive days for $35.00. If you want the Annual Pass and didn't buy it for Half-Price in December, it's $70.00 and is valid for 12 months from purchase date. This pass provides access to Acadia National Park only. This pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle. To see more pass options, including Senior Passes click HERE

There is Echo Lake Beach which does have a lifeguard.

Of course you can go old school and set up a kiddie pool if you have one at home, or even a sprinkler!

There's nothing quite like running through a sprinkler when it's hot out!

The Bar Harbor Campground offers a season pass to their pool for 4 for $50.00

The Town of Mount Desert's Swimming Pool is open for the season. It is staffed by the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor. It is open Monday-Friday 4 to 6 p.m. We are waiting for the Saturday hours, and will post those, when we receive them.
