Safety Tips For Clearing 12-15 Inches Of Snow In Your Area

We are going to get a pile of snow! We are expecting anywhere from 12 to 15 inches of snow Sunday night through 7 p.m. Hopefully it is going to be light and fluffy.

10 years ago I taped a video with Sarah McEachern from Mount Desert Hospital and the tips she offered then, are as true today as they were then!

Key takeaways

If you've had a cardiac incident you should NOT be shoveling
Try to push the snow if possible, this is supposed to be light and fluffy snow, so you should be able to push it.
With the large snowfall expected try not to wait until the end to tackle the snow. It's better to go out multiple times and shovel it in increments.
Don't lift the snow over your shoulder and "throw it"
Warm up before shoveling
Take your medicine before shoveling
Take frequent breaks to allow your body to rest and hydrate!
If you feel unwell, stop right away!
If you have a cellphone take it outside with you in case you need to call for help!

If you have a snowblower, please consider snowblowing your neighbor's driveway! This is a kind of storm where we all have to help each other!
