Coast Guard Ends Search After Making Contact With Missing Sailors
The Coast Guard late Monday afternoon announced it would end its search after making contact with those aboard a sailboat thought to be missing off the coast of Mount Desert Island, Maine.
Starting Saturday evening, rescue crews searched for Charlotte Kirby, Wilfredo Lombardo and Nathaniel Davis about 20 miles south of MDI on a 40-foot sailboat, Dove.
The three had sailed from Somes Sound.
Coast Guard officials said Monday the crew had been contacted. The crew was not in distress and was continuing its journey south.
The boat was located about 100 miles off the New Jersey coast, according to a report at WABI.
