Sumner Memorial High School’s New Cell Phone Policy for 2026-27 School Year
The 129th Maine State Legislature passed a law LD 965 that banned the use of cell phones by students from the morning bell to the dismissal bell at the end of the day. This includes during lunch, and times in between classes. Here is the Sumner Memorial High School's new Cell Phone Policy for the 2026-27 school year.
- Students may bring cell phones and other personal electronic devices to school
- Devices must be powered off or silenced and stored out of sight throughout the instructional day.
- Students may use their devices only after the final dismissal bell.
- If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian during the school day, they may do so through the school office. Likewise, if families needs to reach their student during the day, they are asked to contact the main office at 422-3510 and a message will be delivered promptly.
Additional information regarding the procedures and expectations will be included in the Student Handbook and reviewed with students during the beginning of school.
