The Maine Department of Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for Coastal Hancock County from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th. This includes Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Bucksport and Castine.

With this Air Quality Alert the Maine DEP recommends that individuals consider limiting their strenuous outdoor physical activity, especially those who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants, including the very young, the elderly and those with pre-existing respiratory issues like asthma.

A toll-free air quality hotline has been established. The toll free number is 1-800-223-1196
