In case you didn't know, it's going to be very, very hot today. In fact it's going to be a scorcher! Now the Maine Department of Environment' Protection's Bureau of Air Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for Ozone from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday June 19th.

Ozone levels are expected to rise into the "Unhealthy" level for those sensitive to ozone. Additionally particle pollution levels are expected to be moderate statewide. These levels will be compounded by the effects of the heat and humidity.

It is recommended that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity.

People who may be especially sensitive include the very young, the elderly, those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma, those with heart disease and anyone working hard outdoors. If you experience symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, throat irritation or an uncomfortable sensation in your chest, you should limit the intensity and duration of your outdoor activities.

There is a toll-free Air Quality Hotline and that is 1-800-223-1196
