A 21-year-old man was killed yesterday when he lost control of his car on ice and slush in Orland. Police say he was driving too fast for the conditions.

It was just after four o'clock Monday when Russell Burnett, 21 of Franklin lost control of his car on Route 1 in Orland. His car crossed the center line and was struck broadside by another car driven by Shannon Flood of Bucksport.

Burnett died in the accident. Flood was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police say Burnett was not exceeding the posted speed limit but was driving too fast for the road conditions at the time.
