The Ellsworth wrestlers won the State Championships on Saturday, the first State Victory for Ellsworth in any sport since 2002 and the first Wrestling State Championship since 1982! Coach JF Burns shared the following information with us:

With Jeff Week's victory in the consolation semi-finals at the 182 pound weight division and Senior Robert Banner's victory over Foxcroft Academy's Eli Olson in the 126 pound consolation final by a score of 6-2, Ellsworth clinched the Championship, as Mountain Valley and Camden Hills were mathematically eliminated from catching Ellsworth.

Ellsworth dominated the Class B State Championships, claiming 5 individual state titles. According to Coach Burns, if you were to compare the head to head scores of the ten weight classes that Ellsworth entered wrestlers, the team outscored the combined effort of the entire field of Class B Schools!

In the finals, freshman Peyton Cole remained undefeated at 132 pounds by pinning Steven Thompson of Medomak Valley in the 2nd period.  Junior Dagan Berenyi at 145 pounds and sophomore Trent Goddman at 160 pounds continued their domination of Maine opponents. Berenyi won by a technical fall score of 18-3 over Conor Smith of Fryeburg Academy and Goodman pinned Eli Smith of Camden Hills in the first period. .

The afternoon belonged to senior captain Jack Weeks at 138 pounds, and junior captain Connor Petros at 152 pounds. Weeks won his championships outscoring Dakota Jacques 4-3.
